Even if a producer/writer/director/actor is a fan of a particular genre, it can be hard for them to remain true to the fandom. Too often a film or genre is ruined by commercialism. There are too many cooks in the kitchen and too many things get changed.
I like fan films, I love seeing what an amateur can do without a studio and thousands of dollars behind them. Fan films are proof that you don’t need a massive special effects lab, or big name stars to make a good film.
This is where fan films come into play. A good fan film reflects the fandom it represents because they are done by those that love it and they have minimal interference from outside influence.
