We are used to seeing Adam Savage build impressive things in a matter of hours, but occasionally there comes a project that even he can’t finish easily.
The Fifth Element was released in 1997 and one image stuck in Adam’s mind…the Zorg ZF-1 Blaster.
Since then he has repeatedly returned the project with 3-D sketches and closer analyses of the movie. He can even identify each of the prop guns used within the movie itself and bought a German version of the movie just to watch an extra scene where they take a blaster apart. After multiple starts and stops, and help from people on the RPF forum, Adam Savage finally built a perfect replica of the Zorg ZF-1 blaster from The Fifth Element. It took 10 years, but was worth it.
Check out the video below to see the gun and hear Adam describe his journey to the final assembly.
