‘Aquaman’ Director James Wan Shares First Set Photo

Wonder Woman has another month before it hits theaters, but DC’s next solo superhero film has already started production. Aquaman began filming Tuesday, and director James Wan shared the first set photo on Twitter to celebrate.

“Months of intensive prep have led to this. Here we go. #DayOne #Ahab,” he wrote, sharing a photo of what appears to be the inside of a submarine.

Starring Jason Momoa as Aquaman Arthur Curry, the film synopsis is still very vague, stating, “Arthur Curry learns that he is the heir to the underwater kingdom of Atlantis, and must step forward to lead his people and to be a hero to the world. ”

The cast also includes Amber Heard as Arthur Curry’s love interest Mera, Patrick Wilson as Aquaman’s half-brother Orm (aka Oceanmaster), Willem Dafoe as Aquaman’s advisor Dr. Vulko, Nicole Kidman as Aquaman’s mother Queen Atlanna, Dolph Lundgren as King Nereus of Xebel, and Yahya Abdul-Mateen II as Black Manta.

Before his solo film, Jason Momoa’s Aquaman can be seen in November’s Justice League. Aquaman was originally scheduled to be released October 5, 2018, but will now come out December 21, 2018.
