Emilia Clarke Joins 2018’s Untitled Han Solo Star Wars Anthology Film

emilia-clarke-sw-featureWith next month’s release of “Rogue One: A Star Wars Story,” the blockbuster sci-fi franchise is stepping outside its episodic films, if you will. Though the movie’s story and timeline place Rogue One just prior to the events of the very first film (“Star Wars: Episode IV – A New Hope”), it’s as if this is more of a side-story and a “filling in the pieces” to answer some questions fans have had regarding story details throughout the years. The next film (no, not Star Wars: Episode VIII) to further delve deeper into the Star Wars universe is the Untitled Han Solo Star Wars Anthology film.

Though still early in production, we know the scheduled 2018 standalone film will highlight the young adventures of the young Han Solo (famously portrayed by Harrison Ford). The movie will be set prior to “Star Wars: A New Hope,” just as next month’s “Rogue One.” Alden Ehrenreich has signed on as the young solo, and recently it was announced that Donald Golver will take on the younger version of Lando Calrissian (who can forget Billy Dee Williams?). Yesterday, StarWars.com made an official announcement declaring Game of Thrones star Emilia Clarke as the newest addition to the cast.

The only thing somewhat revealing as to Clarke’s character came from the official announcement, “Clarke’s role will round out a dynamic cast of characters that Han and Chewie will encounter on their adventures.

Again, this early in the pre-production stage means we’ll have to wait a bit for more details to surface regarding the storyline or filming, but we can be certain to see our fair share of smugglers, gamblers, and scoundrels. Here’s to hoping we see how Lando loses the Millenium Falcon to Han in a bet!

The untitled Han Solo film will be directed by Phil Lord and Christopher Miller and is scheduled to be released May 25th, 2018.
