A new trailer for the upcoming film Rogue One: A Star Wars Story has been released and there’s definitely something to take away from it regarding Felicity Jones character Jyn Erso.
First, take a look at the 2+ minute trailer.
So what do you think? Let’s look at just a couple of moments from this video…
We knew this was happening and, given the storylines of Episodes III (Revenge of the Sith) & IV (A New Hope), his presence is inevitable. Still, it’s good to see this iconic villain back from the dead (in a manner of speaking). Plus, James Earl Jones is back providing that instantly recognizable baritone voice!
The most noteworthy moment to point out is at the 0:24 mark where a young Jyn Erso is being instructed by her mother to “Trust the Force.” That alone would make one wonder if she is, in fact, a Jedi. But you could make the argument that it’s also the call of the Rebellion. Heck, even Han Solo said, “May the Force Be With You” even though he lacks midichlorians. But hang on…
The fact that this trailer is intentional with not only showing Jyn’s mother adorning her with this crystal, but also her still wearing it and admiring/contemplating it later as a Rebel fighter, would indicate its importance. So for those that don’t know, what Jyn is more than likely holding and in possession of is a kyber crystal.
Kyber crystals are what are used to power lightsabers 😉
Since it was revealed some time ago that Jedha, a mining planet known for their production of kyber crystals, would be a planet focused on in Rogue One, there must be a direct correlation between the symbolism and significance of Jyn carrying around this pendant. Guess we’ll just have to see in just over one month!
The Rebellion makes a risky move to steal the plans to the Death Star, setting up the epic saga to follow.
Jyn Erso, a Rebellion soldier and criminal, is about to experience her biggest challenge yet when Mon Mothma sets her out on a mission to steal the plans for the Death Star. With help from the Rebels, a master swordsman, and non-allied forces, Jyn will be in for something bigger than she thinks.
