Amazon Prime Video has finally launched the pilot episode of its reboot of The Tick to stream. Fifteen years after the nine-episode TV series starring Patrick Warburton ran on the Fox network, the blue superhero is back and from early reports, it’s a hit!
Will it differ from the previous live-action series or has Amazon scored one for the win column by reviving this franchise, if even only for one 30-minute episode? Time will tell. However, with more and more people “cutting the cord” and seeking their TV and movie entertainment from options such as Netflix, Redbox, Hulu, and television networks offering Internet streaming of their programs, Amazon needs to land some original titles to help them stay competitive in the market. The Tick looks like it could . Now if only they’ll make an entire series. Continue reading for reviews of The Tick on Amazon and clips from the episode.
Here’s a look at The Tick…
- Peter Serafinowicz (Guardians of the Galaxy) as The Tick
- Griffin Newman (Vinyl) as Arthur Everest
- Jackie Earle Haley (Preacher) as The Terror
- Valerie Curry (House of Lies) as Dot Everest
- Brendan Hines (Suits) as Superian
- Yara Martinez (Jane the Virgin) as Ms. Lint
In a world where superheroes have been real for decades, an accountant with zero powers comes to realize his city is owned by a super villain. As he struggles to uncover this conspiracy, he falls in league with a strange blue superhero.
If you do not have Amazon Prime, or are unable to stream the episode, here’s a couple of clips from the show, courtesy of EW.com.
The pilot episode of The Tick is streaming now and is available to all Amazon Prime members. Here are some of the reviews posted today after viewers watched the 30-minute pilot:
The Tick is back! Please make it a series!: bon August 19, 2016
I love The Tick. I watched the cartoon as a kid, and then I watched the first live action show when I got a little bit older (and was extremely disappointed when it was cancelled so fast), and now I’m excited to see this pilot. It perfectly captures the essence of The Tick, but with a plot that’s pretty different from the last two shows. Please make this a series, Amazon!
…but does a pretty good job: bon August 19, 2016
Walks the line between the fun-silly of the cartoon and the darker tone of the comics, but does a pretty good job. Old-school fans will definitely like it, but those that are more attached to the cartoon or the original attempt at the live-action show might prefer it a little lighter.
Wasn’t sold on Peter Serafinowicz when I saw pictures initially, but his delivery (very Adam West-esque and much closer to the cartoon than Patrick Warburton managed) was perfect. He conveys just the right amount of crazy (dangerous crazy, not silly crazy, which is so good). The costume (the mask, especially) needs a little work but much better than initial pictures implied, and Arthur’s casting and costume are absolutely great.
SPOOOOOOON!!: on August 19, 2016
Not sure I like what they did with Arthur, but I think they nailed The Tick.
For a show about a superhero that’s parodying the “dark, grounded” path that has been taken by the Marvel Cinematic Universe and the DC Extended Universe, this pilot episode of The Tick has definitely kept its spirit intact with Tick’s ever-enduring enthusiasm for exacting justice on evil, whatever form it may take! I personally had my own doubts about this new take, but after seeing where creator Ben Edlund has taken this franchise, I am all behind it, and I am giving my full support for a full season! This was a great first episode, and I hope to see even more episodes that outline the universe surrounding this Big Blue Avenger and his sidekick, Arthur. I hope to see even more superheroes as well! Perhaps a Die Fledermaus or even Sewer Urchin! The possibilities are endless! Please, Amazon! Say yes to more Tick episodes!!!
I had my doubts but I am super impressed with this show! I can’t wait to see more!!!!!!
I won’t watch it, it starts with a commercial: by on August 19, 2016
I refuse to watch commercials I want to watch this, but I can’t as it starts with an unskippable commercial.
Yes, that last one was an actual review from a real Prime member. The review was posted on Amazon’s site 5 minutes prior to the writing of this article. It has since been taken down (not sure by whom).
Check out The Tick and let us know in the comments what you think!
