Constantine is a character straight out of the pages of DC Comics’ Hellblazer. It follows a demon hunter and purveyor of the occult, John Constantine, who battles demonic beings, dabbles in the paranormal, and exorcises regularly (demons, that is). <see what I did there?>
The series, unfortunately did not see numbers NBC was hoping for so they ultimately pulled the plug after one season. When it was shopped around to other networks, it came as a bit of a surprise that The CW did make a play for it. The network is home to a number of DC Comics’ properties, including Arrow, The Flash, DC’s Legends of Tomorrow, and now Supergirl. Not only that, but the network has been airing Supernatural, a series with similar themes as Constantine, for 10 years now.
The CW has announced, however, that they have no plans to revive Constantine in either a series or in guest appearances on any of their superhero shows. John Constantine made a cameo appearance in the fourth season of Arrow; being an expert in demons, resurrection and exorcism came in handy when the hooded archer needed help reviving Sara Lance from the Lazarus Pit. This, of course, excited fans seeing the crossover and its potentiality of a series revival. Fortunately, with The CW streaming the entire season for free, if interest is high enough, perhaps the network may take a second look at the possibilities.
