IDW Publishing is launching a second ongoing comic series on everyone’s favorite Heroes in a Halfshell. IDW has been producing the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles comics since 2011 and has garnered a lot of success. So for the first time since IDW took over the series there will be two Turtles comics running concurrently. This August will debut Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles Universe.
The creative team for this new endeavor feature writer Paul Allor (GOTG, G.I. Joe) who will team up with artist Damian Couceiro (PLANET OF THE APES CATACLYSM, SONS OF ANARCHY) to tell the tale of how the Turtles became the enemy of the U.S. Government. The issue will also include a backup story from co-creator of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles Kevin Eastman, who is partnered up with legendary comic artist Bill Sienkiewicz (New Mutants, Elektra: Assassin). The Batman/TMNT miniseries, which saw DC Comics and IDW join forces for this crossover, featured Freddie E Williams II who will provide cover art for the Universe title.
Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles Universe will explore stories throughout the entire continuity of the current ongoing Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles series, which has already surpassed 50 issues. What makes this new series different from the ongoing Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles series is that Universe will spotlight characters and incorporate storylines essential to IDW’s TMNT universe. It also provides an outlet to feature up-and-coming creators and fan favorites.
“The story of IDW’s Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles is now too large to confine to just one ongoing series!” says TMNT editor Bobby Curnow. “With Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles Universe, we’ll be able to fully explore all of the exciting characters and plots that the world of the Turtles has to offer. This series will also be the perfect venue for some of the best creators in the industry to tell Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles stories in their own unique voice.”
Look out for Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles Universe this August at your local comic shop.
