According to the Japanese publication, Daily Cyzo, a Japanese entertainment publication, there is a live-action film adaptation of Hiromu Arakawa’s action-fantasy manga Fullmetal Alchemist in development for a 2017 release.
They have even picked a lead actor and director. Ryosuke Yamada who played Nagis in the live-action adaption Assassination Classroom will take on the role of Edward Elric. Funihiko Sori, director of the 2012 Dragon Age anime movie, will be the director.
Fullmetal Alchemist was a popular manga written and illustrated by Hiromu Arakawa that ran from 2001 to 2010. There have previously been two anime TV adaptions and two animated films based upon the series.
Filming is scheduled to start in June and will obviously be very heavy on the CGI front for everything from the alchemy effects to Alphonse’s empty armor.
