As watchers of CW’s The Flash know, Zoom is, simply put, one of the scariest villains ever put on the small screen. With a voice that growls and crackles and a black suit that reminds us more of charred skin than a uniform or costume, Zoom embodies a cancerous form of evil that puts even the coolest fanboy on edge. You are dealing with a demoniac that can move faster than a bullet, faster than thought, faster than life.
So the mystery of who – which Earth-2 doppelganger – just is this Zoom has been running in our minds for months now. Fan theories have abounded and the one I most favored was that Zoom was actually Barry Allen’s dad, Dr. Henry Allen from Earth-2.
It fit in so many ways. Dr. Allen was played by John Wesley Shipp, the original Flash in the first TV series. He was often off-screen and in prison, and then mysteriously did not want to live with Barry once he got out. I mean, yeah that was the Earth-1 version, but he was so noble and so proud of Barry, it would’ve been a slam-dunk to make his Earth-2 counterpart a totally cold killing machine – much like all the Earth-2 counterparts were flipsides of their Earth-1 dopplegangers.
Now we know that is not the case. We think. You see, I am not convinced this last minute reveal is legit.
You see, for a while we thought Harrison Wells was a bad guy. But we discovered he was actually Eobard Thawne, having replaced Wells and mimicking his physical appearance using technology from the future.
Are the writer’s of CW’s The Flash going to pull that again? Because who they revealed Zoom to be was a bit off. At least, from this reviewer’s point of view.
Should I tell you and spoil the episode? Well, I guess it can’t hurt. The whole world saw that Zoom was really…. [huge whooshing sound and panicked screams]
[A thousand leaflets cover the city, floating down like ashes from a burning building. A dark figure crouches like a gargoyle, with sparks of blue lightning jumping over his muscular form]
“THIS IS ZOOM! I HAVE THE ONE CALLED JUSTICE. FORGET ALL YOU HAVE SEEN AND TELL NO ONE, OR CENTRAL CITY SHALL DIE!”
