Television can be a harsh world. Shows are created every day for every new season and most of those shows die with no chance of ever coming back. The series Firefly comes to mind. However, today it was announced that Matt Ryan will be one of the lucky ones.
If you follow comic books and comic book related television shows then you would know Matt Ryan played John Constantine in the NBC series, ‘Constantine’ before it was canned. Constantine is now going to be joining the cast of Arrow this coming season for at least (we hope) one episode of CW’s hit show. It was something which Stephen Amell wanted for his show to do and made no secret about it on his Twitter and Facebook accounts even before Constantine was cancelled.
Daniel Cerone the ex-showrunner of Constantine lit the fires of hell once again first with this solo tweet. But was also just as quick to squelch any running flames of rumors of a second season.
It it did not take long for Matt Ryan (Constantine) to confirm the rumors with his own tweet and video “The Tench Coat is being dusted off” – Matt Ryan: https://twitter.com/mattryanreal/status/631211617859059712
Amell who plays “Oliver Queen” the lead character in the CW series, ‘Arrow’ has been a prominent voice for DC Comics based television series. From his bashing of Warner Bros for announcing the casting of a new movie Flash on the heels of Grant Gustin’s successful second episode ratings of his own series ‘The Flash’ (seriously anyone can have an amazing pilot ratings but maintaining that for the second episode is something else!) to pushing for crossovers with the Flash and other DC based properties on other networks such as FOX’s Gotham and NBC’s Constantine. It would seem Amell does indeed have a lot of pull in his medium. Amell seems just as excited as the fans are to finally have Hellblazer on his show. Amell even joining in on the tweet fest and Ryan giving it right back to him! The Arrow vs Constantine Twitter war is on!!
Rumor has it, Constantine will be in or around the fifth episode of the series this coming year. What this means for the CW DC television universe is astounding. Constantine’s inclusion opens up doors for many of the occult and supernatural side of things. One storyline before the Constantine cancellation had a crossover event in mind with Hellblazer offering his mystic abilities to clear the effects from Ra’s Al Ghul’s lazarus pit. This could very well still come into play with the return of a dead ally on the Arrow team.
One can only hope the relationship CW/ Warner has with Stephen Amell doesn’t fall out as he has become the would-be figure head of this new and ever expanding television universe. One could also hope this means a second chance for John and company and maybe Constantine can join the CW? If not, at least his name could also be around in the Legends of Tomorrow series as well. Fingers crossed!
I know I’m looking froward to Constantine on Arrow, who else is and what else do you hope comes from it. Go on and comment below!
