And once again our journey into sequels continues, To start at the beginning, check out part 1 (Don’t worry we are getting towards the end.)
Funded by a successful Indiegogo campaign the long-awaited Super Troopers 2 is finally moving ahead. The film had been in development for a while, but the Broken Lizard couldn’t come up with the fund on their own. They decided to go to their fans and within 24 hours the fans had responded with an outstanding outlay of cash. By the time the campaign was over there was 4.5 m raised. Obviously this film is wanted. We are told that it is under production, but we don’t have a release date, we can only assume 2016 or early 2017.
The reboot ended up as a hug success so of course they are giving us a sequel. Filming is going on right now and we keep getting all sorts of juicy little tidbits. From ‘leaked’ pictures to charity gigs. The filming of this movie is one of the biggest tickets at the moment. Keep watching Popculthq for more information on them.
Terminator: Genisys 2 and 3
Terminator: Genisys is currently getting mixed reviews, but we have already been told that there are two more in the series that are due out May 19, 2017 and June 29, 2018. Arnold says that he will be in the second movie, no word on the third one yet. We can only assume that the next two movies will continue the storyline. The problem is, if this movie continues to get a luke-warm reception will the actors return and if they don’t then what?
This movie is pressing ahead with Sean Hayes, Chris Diamantopoulos and Will Sasso reprising the lead roles. As of May they were also looking for a ‘major actions tar’ to round out the cast. I guess they would be the straight man and they one they expect to be the box-office draw.
Despite the death of director Tony Scott in 2012, Jerry Bruckheimer and Tom Cruise continue to push this film. Justin Marks is currently writing the script which will be focusing on drone warfare and its effect on the pilots. Tom Cruise will be back for the sequel so you can pretty much guarantee that we will see Maverick doing some classic maneuvers and dogfights against drones so that he can prove that man is better than machine. We don’t have a time line on this, but with Cruises current filming schedule we won’t see much for at least another year.
Even though it is 4th in the franchise it will be a story that is independent of the others, yet still follow after them. We are told that this film script is approaching its final rewrite. What apparently sets this film apart from the others is that it will be a comedic romance. What that exactly means for a bunch of toys, I’m not sure, but I guess we will find out when it hits theaters July 2017
2016 will be the 20th anniversary, which may be the trigger to get this film moving. However, if they were planning to release it on the anniversary then they better get moving quickly. At this point it is all speculation and rumor. Ewan McGregor stated that he wouldn’t mind returning to the role and Danny Boyle stated a year ago that he might consider doing a script for Porno, which is Irvine Welsh’s follow-up novel but there is nothing concrete.
This is a movie franchise that has the potential to carry on forever. With the variety of storyline already out there and offered by the cartoon franchise the writers could pretty much pick and choose any combination. We know that the studio has plans to release a film in 2017. So far it looks like they have Michael Bay back at the helm and Peter Cullen back to voice Optimus Prime.
It looks like Frank Martin will be making a return however he will have a new face as he will be played by Ed Skrein. Transporter refueled is the fourth installment in the series and is due out this September, however they already have plans for a 5th and 6th. Sort of ridiculous if you ask me as Refueled is a reboot with a new actor and they have no combination if he will have the same screen power that Statham did.
One more part to go and then we are done. Watch for part 9 soon.
