It is hard to be an upstart independent comic book publisher and make it in the business.  In order to gain a foothold in the industry, you need to employ a slew of writers and artists that will get your company noticed.  A new publisher has done just that.

AfterShock Comics was formed this past April by Joe Pruett (writer and editor for Caliber Comics) and Mike Marts (former executive editor at Marvel Comics).  Marts, who will serve as editor-in-chief for AfterShock, left his position at Marvel to help form this new, upstart publisher.  Here is what Mike had to say regarding this new venture…

When we launched AfterShock, our mission was to attract the best comic book creators in the business, and we’re beyond excited to develop original projects with these industry leaders. But it’s only the beginning.

And attract them, they did!  Announced today, just three days prior to San Diego Comic Con International, AfterShock unveiled their acquired team of writers known for their established credentials and it is an impressive list…

Ennis had this to say regarding his inclusion in AfterShock:  “AfterShock looks to be making all the right moves. I’m delighted by the arrival of a new home for independent, creator-owned comics.”

Depicted as the “first wave” of talent for the upstart, the announced team is highly talented and equipped to launch this new promotion from the get-go.  Although AfterShock has not mentioned any titles, we do know that there is a planned short-story anthology to be written by Gaiman and the team of Jim Starlin, Amy Chu and Brian Stelfreeze.

AfterShock intends on making their presence felt at this year’s Comic Con (July 9 – July 12th).  Any news that breaks during the convention, rest assured that PopCultHQ will keep you in the loop as it happens.  You can visit their Facebook page here and at their official site, which is primed to launch very soon!
