United States fans cheered their hearts out at BC Place stadium for the FIFA Women’s World Cup soccer final. The match between the United States and Japan started and ended in spectacular fashion in Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada, Sunday, July 5, 2015. What a way to redeem themselves from the loss 4 years ago.
When U.S. coach shook things up in last week’s semifinal against Germany, no one expected that when coach Ellis strayed from the tradition it would cause one of the most incredible finals in Woman’s World Cup History. U.S Woman’s coach left that standard USA 4-4-2 formation and went with a 4-5-1, putting Alex Morgan as the lone forward and having Carli Lloyd play slightly higher in a three-player central midfield. The slight move strategy worked perfectly for the Americans, and that’s how they got off to such an amazing start with 4 goals in 15min on Sunday.with Lloyd went on a scoring bonanza! Lauren Holiday put the U.S. up by a third goal in the 13th minute, burying her finish from close range but the story is Carli Lloyd, who finished her amazing record-breaking time 3 goal hat-trick with a third goal!!
Megan Rapinoe and Tobin Heath, the United States’ most skilled players, played the wings well as the teams stout back line remained the same as it’s been in every game this World Cup. With Meghan Klingenberg, Becky Sauerbrunn, Julie Johnston and Ali Krieger. And Hope Solo, all lead a very solid defense in USA 5-2 victory over Japan.
