PopcultHQ Explores Upcoming Movie Sequels – Part 9

sequels part 9Welcome to the 9th and final issue of our series on sequels.

Triplets

The sequel to the movie twins was an idea that fostered several years ago. The original director Ivan Reitman is supposed to return as well as Arnold Schwarzenegger and Danny Devito. Joining them as the third brother is Eddie Murphy. There several people working on the script, but whether this ever comes to fruition will have to be seen.

TRON 3

Just in case you haven’t heard, all progress on this was canceled in May and I don’t think it will be coming back.

Tucker & Dale Vs Evil 2

Tucker and Dale Vs Evil 2 is official, at least according to the stars Tyler Labine and Alan Tudyk who made the announcement at the 2014 Horrorhound convention. The problem is that since the announcement the airwaves have been a little dead.

Underworld: Next Generation

Kate Beckinsale is back for the fifth time as Selene the vampiric Death Dealer and Theo James is returning as David. Anna Foerster,is taking over the directorial reins. The script was written by Cory Goodman and production is slated to begin in Prauge in October 2015 and the film should be hitting theaters in 2016.underworld

Wanted 2

Another sequel where one of the main stars (Angelina Jolie) is not returning. It has been almost a decade since the original movie. However we have been told by producers Marc Platt and John DeLuca that a script for Wanted 2 has been prepared. They just haven’t told us if they are going to work on it or just let it collect dust for a few more years.

War of the Planet of the Apes

Due in theaters on July 14, 2017. This will be third installment of the rebooted Planet of the Apes series and you’ve probably guessed that the plot will focus around the war between man and ape. No word on who is starring in it yet, but we can probably assume that Ceasar, played by Andy Serkis will make an appearance.

We’re The Millers 2

In 2014 we were told that this was getting a sequel and that Adam Sztykiel would be writing it. Jason Sudeikis and Jennifer Aniston will more than likely be reprising their roles, if it ever moves forward.

Who Framed Roger Rabbit 2

As much as I would love to see this sequel happen, I think this was a one-time fluke. It was the perfect combination of actors, writers, production crew and animators that will never have quite the same punch as the original. Disney had a script for the sequel as far back as the early ’90s, but I think between licensing rights for other characters and the cost of the filming style it just got too costly, too time consuming and too much of a risk. roger rabbit

World War Z 2

Due in theaters June, 2017 the sequel is probably going to have as little do with Max Brooks book as the original film did. We are told that the sequel won’t necessarily pick up where the last one dropped us and we aren’t getting many more hints than that. With the amount of stories in the original book they could essentially start at the beginning with someone elses viewpoint or they may just take off in their own direction. I guess we will have to wait and see what they do.

Brad Pitt is back to star which will be somewhat of a draw, but it will be up against the second Fantastic 4 movie, whose popularity will hinge on the upcoming reboot.

Wreck-It Ralph 2

This movie was such a hit that you just know there is a sequel brewing. A year ago it was hinted by Composer Henry Jackman that the studio was working on a new script, but nothing more has surfaced.

XxX 3: the Return of Xander Cage

We have a script and a plot, we even have Vin Diesel as the star; what we don’t have is an update since 2014. Diesel has a pretty full schedule so it may be several years before we get an update, or we may even find that this gets shelved all together.

Yogi Bear 2

It doesn’t say much for the status of a movie when the Google preview shows a description for Alvin and the Chipmunks. In 2012 we were told that Warner Bros. had hired Broken Lizard director Jay Chandrasekhar to pen the script, but nothing more has come out of it. We may be lucky on this one.yogi bear

Zombieland 2

Not much to say except they got hired writer Dave Callaham in 2014 and that Ruben Fleischer is supposed to return as the director.

Zoolander 2

This is currently filming in Italy and due out in February 2016. Ben Stiller and Owen Wilson are back. Penelope Cruz has been added to the cast, along with a slew of other names making appearances.

And that is the end of our extensive look at upcoming sequels. I am certain I missed some, if you know of any leave us a note.
