Image’s “Southern Bastards” Coming to FX Network

The television industry sure does love looking to the comic book world for ideas, innovation, and concepts for programming.  The latest acquisition for the small screen is Image Comics‘ “Southern Bastards” by the FX network.  Written by Jason Aaron (Punisher, Scalped) and with art by Jason Latour (Wolverine, Spider-Gwen), the series follows a power struggle between a local criminal named Euless Boss and Earl Tubb, the son of Craw County, Alabama’s former sheriff.

Debuting in April 2014, Southern Bastards was an immediate hit for Image, who have really been putting out monster titles as of late:  Saga, East of West, Ghosted, Trees, Low, Lazarus, Alex + Ada, God Hates Astronauts, Manifest Destiny, Manhattan Projects, and of course The Walking Dead.  Currently on issue #9, the Eisner-nominated, Southern-fried crime drama appears prime for an FX showing, especially since they are probably looking for a replacement for Justified and Sons of Anarchy.  The TV adaptation will have Aaron and Latour write the series and serve as executive producers.

For those unfamiliar with this relatively-new series, here’s a look at the issues available so far, along with a brief synopsis of each issue.
