Whenever the E3 expo rolls around, it always delivers some big news, exciting release info, and just plain fun things to see. At E3 2015, the Nintendo World Championships were underway. The first round saw competitors face off playing Splatoon.
Splatoon, the ink-squirting game for the Wii U, is a crazy mess… and that’s a good thing! As the folks at Nintendo put it, Splatoon consists of, “an ink-or-be-inked world.” Your character, a squid-like Inkling, get to wander through Inkopolis Plaza. While there, you can just hang out and roam, get equipped with some fresh gear, and participate in Ink battles. This crazy world utilizes the Wii U GamePad controller to its fullest, displaying not only gameplay, but helps provide critical intel on the Turf Map to plot your next course(s) of action.
The next round consisted of what is considered to be one of the greatest 2D action/adventure games ever created, Super Metroid. It was a welcome addition to the championships for sure. The popular third title in the Metroid series takes place on a large planet called Zebes. This exploratory game takes the titular hero, Samus, through a labyrinth of ancient ruins, a jungle, an ocean world, and even a wrecked spaceship. After encountering many space pirates and kihunters, you will face a number of mini-bosses and, ultimately, the big bosses.
Another event saw the debut of a new 3DS game called Blast Ball, a team-based shooter comparable to the Metroid franchise of games. This futuristic game has players suited up in mech suits firing balls at an opponent’s goal. Upon scoring, however, the enemy’s goal diminishes in size with each score making it more difficult in achieving points.
And now, the Finals!!!
The final round of the 2015 Nintendo World Championships saw the two remaining competitors square off against a never-before-seen game… Super Mario Maker! This game allows you to create your own Super Mario world from all the blocks, pipes, and enemies from one of the most recognized titles in video games. This is too much awesomeness! Super Mario Maker will hit shelves on September 11, 2015.
