The interweb is a-buzz over the announcement reportedly made by Lil’ Wayne, the rapper, which he supposedly made during the KMEL Summer Jam show at the Oracle Arena in Oakland last night (June 13).
“I just signed a deal with my motherf***in’ idol, Jay Z,” – Lil Wayne said.
This is a brave notion for Weezy to declare at this moment for many a reasons. There’s the fact, Lil Wayne has been fighting for his and his artist Drake and Nicki’s freedom from Birdman lead Cash Money Records. So has Cash Money finally given into Wayne’s demands and allowed Weezy to get off his contract? We here at PopcultHQ highly doubt that. We also doubt that Weezy is talking about an actual record contract with Jay-Z’s Roc Nation label.
I personally believe Weezy was actually referring to a deal with TIDAL. Weezy is already in bed with TIDAL with a released song on the service before, so it’s not hard to guess that the “Free Weezy” Album will end up on there.

Again we reiterate, at present time, it is very unclear whether Wayne was referring signing onto the record label arm of Roc Nation or its management roster. This all still so far from being done anyway since In January, Lil Wayne announced he was suing Cash Money Records and its owner Birdman for $51m. TMZ reported that the rapper was taking legal action to free himself from the label as he believed they violated his contract by not releasing his new album ‘Tha Carter V’ along with unpaid royalties.
As well as severing his contract with the label, Lil Wayne asked a judge to declare him the joint copyright holder of everything released on his Cash Money imprint, Young Money, home to artists including Drake and Nicki Minaj.
This is still a very fluid moving news announcement so PopcultHQ will keep our music fans updated on any further developments.
