Yesterday, Cher celebrated her 69th birthday and what better Throwback Thursday Track than her song “Believe”?
Cher, also known as Cherilyn Sarkisian, is an American singer who was born on May 20, 1946. At the age of 16, Cher met the infamous singer and songwriter Salvatore Philip Bono who was also known as Sonny. Sonny believed Cher had the star potential. He even wrote his thoughts about it in an autobiography,
“I became convinced that this shy, skinny, teenage girl with an unusually deep singing voice, was star material. All she needed was someone to channel her hidden talent. And I was bent on doing it.”
Sonny and Cher went on to build their careers until they released their song “I Got You Babe” which soon became a number one hit. Cher soon turned towards acting as she had always wanted to do and eventually parted ways from Sonny.
Cher’s song Believe won a Billboard Music Award in 1999 for the Single of the Year and in 2000, a Grammy Award for the “Best Dance Recording” song.
