For the first time in well……as long as I can recall (I am only 38) there will be a professional baseball game played with not a single person in attendance! For safety concerns, due to the riots that have taken place in the city of Baltimore, MLB has announced that today’s baseball game featuring the White Sox and Orioles will have no fans in the stands at Camden Yards in Baltimore.
This is actually a first for Major League Baseball and really a sad week in the city of Baltimore and a pale day in the city’s sports history.
I personally don’t understand why the game could not have been postponed in honor of the city of Baltimore due to these troubling times. Or move the game to Chicago so fans can still enjoy the game in person. The game will be played on TV as it will be broadcast in local Baltimore television and on WGN sports in Chicago.
Updated: The White Sox vs Orioles baseball game was played as planned with no fan in attendance. The home team Baltimore Orioles won the game 8 to 2 handily beating my favorite team the Chicago White Sox surrounded by empty seats. Even with a no fan-ban inside Camden Yards, there was still plenty of die-hard Orioles fans who watched the game while standing on high-rises near the stadium.
