(UPDATED) 5-20-15: As of now the film has been canceled with no further details given by Disney
It has been made official that Olivia Wilde will return as the ever so sexy and super ass-kicker Quorra and Garrett Hedlund will return as Sam Flynn.
Since Disney’s 2010’s Tron: Legacy grossed $400 million worldwide, I have been dying for the return of a third installment. Lead actor Garrett Hedlund in 2012 always vowed he would return to the ultra cool looking Tron franchise so to me it seemed like it would be a given. Since that time a failed Disney X D cartoon launched and was canceled. The proposed Tron 3 sequel date has long missed its 2014 projected start.
Finally it looks like the digital planets have lined up once again for Tron: Legacy to continue its vastly complex storyline that was left unfinished. What happens to my favorite character the mega badass Quorra?!!
Of course Tron: Legacy was the follow-up to the 1982 sci-fi film Tron. Legacy that took nearly 20 years to finally find someone talented enough to bring the inside computer world known as the Grid to mind-blowing real life visuals. The original ’82 Tron starred Jeff Bridges and Bruce Boxleitner and at the time was what could now be call a blockbuster hit. Over the years though Tron has slowly gained more and more fame and popularity as a cult classic film for many a sci-fi or video game geeks (myself included!). Tron gained such underground fame and became an influence on many future filmmakers and pop culture!
Twenty years later, Disney revisited the Grid with Legacy. When the Son (Sam Flynn) of computer-programmer Kevin Flynn (played by Jeff Bridges), jumped into the Grid to find his father. There the Son found out why his Father had stayed in the Grid and after her found self-created programs, Quorra and her race of people.
I totally loved Tron: Legacy even as it was trashed by critics and a lot of classic Tron ‘fans’ a like. There is not many other movies that I can truly show-off what crisp blu-ray quality on a solid 1080i HD really looks like to a non-HD fan. The (what I call) eye-candy factor of Tron: Legacy is so breathtaking and grand in scale, there is no one I know that is not completely impressed by the looks of the film. The storyline on the other hand is what seems to disappoint a lot of ‘purist’ fans since they believe the first film was more of an insightful look at 80’s society.
I just want more Grid-tastic special effects, I want a closure to what was started by the evil Clu (the digital evil version of Jeff Bridges), will we get the return of the actual Tron character who was known as the bad guy Rinzler in Tron: Legacy, will Daft Punk come back and do the music?!
Soundtrack Music was produced by Daft a punk for Tron Legacy. Here is a sample of their work for the film with a trailer.
Joseph Kosinski is back as director. Justin Springer will be involved as a producer.
