Will we be seeing Black Adam Before Shazam?

Dwayne Johnson has been letting some tasty tidbits fall lately regarding his character Black Adam in the upcoming Shazam movie.

In a recent interview, Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson gives us hints into Adams origin story. “I think Black Adam is going to grow into becoming an anti-hero. It’s all written within the spirit of respecting and paying homage to the comics. As we know, Black Adam started out as a slave. When he’s given the powers, he utilized them. Then in the wake of his powers, tragedy strikes, which turns his sentiment and tone in terms of psychology.”

It doesn’t appear to be that far from the comic’s origin, at least in the basis and I appreciate it when they don’t change the origins.

Mr. Johnson also gave us a few hints of other things that might be in store for the anti-hero/villain. “It was all agreed that the worlds are all interconnected… One day you will see Black Adam go at it with Superman or Batman or any of the DC characters. But that said, there’s a great independence to Black Adam from the DC world, allowing us to inject, not only viciousness, but also winking humor.”

Does this mean that we might be seeing Dwayne Johnson don the Black Adam mantle earlier than expected? The Shazam movie isn’t scheduled to be released until April 5th, 2019, but it is sounding like he might come up against some other fantastic foes before then.

The Rock definitely has us thinking along these lines with a statement he gave to MTV at the Oscars. “You know, it may happen a little earlier than what has been predicted. The script is coming in, it’s great. The support from the studio has been great. It’s just a great opportunity, especially with Black Adam where you can take a guy who starts off as a bad guy, turns into a anti-hero. We can make him vicious, [with] a little bit of winking charm.”

That last comment leads me to believe that maybe he will end up siding with the good guys when it comes to a planetary threat. So maybe we will be seeing Black Adam a little bit before we ever see Shazam, maybe in the Justice League movie?
