Kurt Wagner a.k.a. Nightcrawler will have a new face in the upcoming X-Men: Apocalypse. Director Bryan Singer used his Instagram account to announce that he had just cast Kodi Smit-McPhee to play a young Nightcrawler.
The demonic-looking teleporter was previously played by Alan Cumming in X2: X-Men United, who did an excellent job holding up the character. Let’s just hope that Kodi can do as good of a job.
For those unfamiliar with Kodi Smit-McPhee, he is an Australian that has been acting for a while. He has a list of minor roles, but is best known for playing the role of Boy, alongside Viggo Mortensen in The Road. Other notable roles include Alexander in Dawn of the Planet of the Apes and Thomas ‘Tolly’ Johnson in the series Gallipoli.
The role of Nightcrawler will be a big step for his career as he joins other young X-men including Sophie Turner as Jean Grey, Alexandra Shipp as Storm, and Tye Sheridan as Cyclops. Other notable characters making reappearances in X-Men:Apocalypse are James McAvoy’s Professor X, Michael Fassbender as Magneto, Jennifer Lawrence as Mystique and Nicholas Hoult’s Beast.
It is going to be a long wait until this hits theaters on May 27, 2016.
